I have become aware that at the heart of my work as a Storyteller is an appreciation of Tribes. Temple Grandin told me that the only times she was not bullied or made fun of as a kid was when she was in an “affinity group” that brought together diverse people around common interests. These are either elemental parts of ourselves that we were born with (like Curls), or chosen Passions (like Shoes, or Sports, or Hobbies), all of which transcend limiting silos such as age, race, ethnicity, geography and, often, gender. .Shared experiences help people feel that they belong, that they are not alone..
